Norbert Herczig will also be here at Mecse

In the spirit of sustainability, among other things, a fleet of electric cars will be presented at the Mecsek Rallye. Skodas with green license plates will be seen on the starting podium and in front of some speed stages, one of the cars will be driven by Norbert Herczig.

In the 21st century, sustainability and environmental protection cannot be avoided. In the spirit of this, we are trying to innovate at the 54th Mecsek Rallye. We have organized a fleet of e-cars, which will go through the Árpádtető speedway twice ahead of the field. With this, we are trying to demonstrate that sustainability is important to us, and we also expect that in a few years their electric rally cars will be able to appear at the MecsekMiklós Bernáth, deputy general manager of PSN Zrt., summed up the essence of the program.

The organization was even easier than expected, Porsche Hungaria provides the Skoda fleet with green license plates that will be visible at the race.

"At first they were surprised that we came up with such an idea, but they immediately said yes to the invitation. We have already addressed several people, according to our plans, this idea will become more prominent every year at the Mecsek RallyeMiklós Bernáth added. "Pécs is also a Green City, and here is Mecsek, a unique natural wonder that we are trying to preserve. This concept fits in with the fact that quieter vehicles also appear on the tracks among rally cars with roaring engines

Norbert Herczig will drive one of these electric Skodas. The four-time Hungarian champion finished in fifth place in the Polish Rally at the opening race of the ERC at the weekend with a Skoda Fabia, and also won the Mecsek Rallye with three races with the brand. Now he is enjoying a new experience, he has not yet gone through the speedways with an electric car.

It will surely be a special experience. Of course, we don't drive at a racing pace, the goal now is to show the future and that these cars are no longer just the city, they can also be driven for longer distances." – mondta Herczig Norbert.

The rally and the engine sound are closely intertwined, and many fans, perhaps rightfully so, get their hair on end at the thought of high-pitched screeching racing cars on the tracks.

"That's understandable, it would be strange for me to hear Ramón in the Skoda Fabia R5 evo without a helmet microphone, but maybe it's too early to worry about that. Now we want to draw attention to pay attention to the environment. There are countless ways to do this, one of which could even be to travel to the race with an electric vehicle. But if we just spread the idea to as many fans as possible, and they pay even more attention to the nature where the speed stages are marked, we have already done a lot for the rally" - said Norbert Herczig. "The future of racing car technology is definitely electric. The WRC will compete with hybrid cars from 2022, these Rally1 cars are already being tested by the teams and experience is being gathered. We have already taken the first step. But I can also mention the Dakar, where Audi signed world stars for its hybrid racing cars."
