Zwei Takt Memory: can you have nine more beautiful memories?

In last year's race, the public could already see them among the eastern stars of the Rally, and they were such a success that they will continue this year: together with the Just4Fun field, as part of the Zwei Takt Memory (Two-stroke rally memories?) investment program, 9 Trabants race through 8 speeds in the Mecsek, and, on Friday, at Széchenyi Square, we can once again admire the East German car wonders of the past regime.

Today's at least middle-aged people know the "paper jaguars" from Zwickau, which were originally turbocharged from 19 to 26 horsepower, from their heyday, and let's face it, they did their job well at that age. Among other things, converted into racing machines, it is also popular among pilots, in addition to Ladas and Skodas, also on rally tracks; true, slightly tuned, up to 50 horsepower...

The professional manager of this year's Mecsek rally, Tibor Markó following his idea, the remaining examples, which are now only used in shows and tours, came out of the garages again at the 2018 Baranya Cup to "race" a lap of honor in the race, polished inside and out. And they were so popular that they can also participate in the Mecsek Rallye; on Friday, to be decorated all day on Széchenyi Square, then in the evening to stand at the end of the field and push through the two Fridays and then all the following days' speed races. Let's add that, even though they are genuine former racing machines with factory homologated tuning, Gruppe A, this time they are not at a breakneck speed, but only at a demonstration pace.

As Tibor Markó puts it, the goal is not to fight the stopwatch or each other, but rather the gesture, the nostalgia and the tribute to our predecessors, who once earned the respect of rally fans with these glass-sounding vehicles, who then saved them as a real asset to the for posterity. And for the younger ones, who can no longer remember them, providing an experience live that until now could only be made from copied VHS tapes to the strength of a short film on the Internet.

He is a participant and organizer of the project Máté Harth who himself competed with one of these in the former rally sprints. More precisely, not with one like this, but with the one we will see now, of course, restored to its original state.

"I was very happy, and the entire Trabanto brigade, all former sprinters, was very happy to have the opportunity to drive through such a patina race with our treasured treasures. By the way, I went with him for six years from 2001, and then I sat next to Gábor Galambos to navigate a Lada. Today, I only take it out for shows like this as a hobby, but otherwise I keep it in real competition condition, I could easily enter it in the Historic field. It's a good feeling to know how many people are getting nostalgic, joyful moments that remind them of their youth with these cars - Máté Harth summarizes one of his motivations regarding old and modern trabiz.
