Zsolt Lajtai is one of the toppers of the Mecsek Rallye

Certainly, there is none in the history of the Mecsek Rallye, which goes back to 55 races Lajtai Zsolton except for anyone who would start for more than the thirtieth time. We can say that he will definitely be here this time Matulik Mátéval.

"Yes, that's right, we will be at the competition again. Even I didn't count exactly, but I'll really get through thirty starts, that's for sure. Back in the eighties, I started in rally2 for the first time. Series with Zsiguli, with which I immediately won the category. There were races with a fantastic atmosphere back then. Struggle, but also a family atmosphere. If I close my eyes, I always see my father waiting at the stoplights. A multitude of unforgettable experiences to this day," reflects the nostalgic Zsolt Lajtai.

"Then we switched to VFTS. Well, that was a very tough car at the time. More and more of them started in the field, it was extremely stimulating to fight against so many opponents. Our best domestic result in Mecse was an absolute 2nd place, just then Szabó Tamás he was able to overtake with a BMW M3... With the Lada, we even had several podium finishes here, in the domestic environment, but also in other places in the country. I remember that period with great fondness," says Zsolt proudly.

"Then came the Toyota Celica, a milestone in my life. Western racing car, with all-wheel drive. We were able to go with version N, but even with that we achieved very good results in absolute terms. It was an experience to compete in the 90s, there were a lot of spectators, the number of entries in rally 1 was never below a hundred cars. Then, much later, almost to the present day, I now look back, in 2019 I took up the fight with the young people here in Mecse with an all-wheel drive Mitsubishi. It was a great experience. Such opportunities still keep me alive," says Zsolt Lajtai with sparkling eyes.

"I'm in good shape even at the age of 64, I always say, the stopwatch shows how I am, because he doesn't know me. If the weather is good, I will not stop, if I see that it is going less and less, I will hang the helmet on a nail. However, I am also developing the Ford Escort. I would also like to use Szeleczky's ample 15-year-old WRC chassis under the car so that I can put 18-inch wheels on it. Not yet, it hasn't been completed yet, but this also shows that if it's up to me, I'll be here in the field of the 56th Mecsek Rallye" - we conclude with Zsolt Lajtai, who irrevocably entered his name in the memory book of Hungary's most storied race.
