The second day of the Mecsek was a success in front of many spectators
By Saturday morning, the sun had replaced yesterday's clouds, and the newly built service park again welcomed the spectators and, of course, the racing cars.
Of course, it was a huge disappointment for all the participants, but especially for the organizers, that the program had to be interrupted the day before, but everyone agreed that it was the most reasonable decision to protect the safety of the spectators and participants.
The storms passed, and the colleagues working for the organization of the competition worked all night to clear the roads in order to create suitable conditions for the racing cars. The difficulty for the pairs was that the water stopped in several places, as the track was more difficult to dry in the roughly 10 degrees cooler weather compared to the previous day, which of course they could only experience at a competitive pace. The choice of tires for the unpredictable conditions was also a lottery, and there were plenty of people who reached out for it.
On the second day, the competition started immediately with the longest course of the entire race route, the 19.4 km Árpádtetó - Abaliget section, where the EHRC field started first.
On this day, the spectators could also see the entire field on three different stages in two laps, which was joined by R2, replacing the R3 competing on Friday.
In the R2-ben 23 people started, but only 14 of them reached the finish line at the end of the day. Although, based on his time result, Norbert Czékmány could have been in the lead after the first stages - as he won four out of six stages - but due to a delay he received a 30 second penalty, so Máté Geiger took the lead from him. This position lasted until he took a decelerator on the fourth rapid, for which he also collected a 10-second penalty. As a result, the Czékmánys took over the lead, and Geiger slipped to second place thanks to the penalty. If he avoided the speeding penalty, he could have beaten his rival by a tenth. Zoltán Molnár brought in the Citroen C2 in third place.
The daily sections are a Historic was inaugurated by the field, i.e. they were the first to go through their rapids. On the opening section, Árpádtetó-Abaliget, by the time the field reached the end, the track was already dry in many places, except for the wooded parts.Érdi's had the best start, then the Italian "Lucky" took the next fast one from Mecsekpölöske. Dear friends, they made good times despite the fact that yesterday's half-axle problem still hasn't been solved. In the first round, behind Érdi and Lucky, the Austrian Wagner was in third place. This order remained at the end of the second run, Érdi's local knowledge might have given him some advantage over Lucky, who could not catch him.
ifj. Érdi Tibor – (Kerék István):
It was a tough race even though we won by almost a minute and a half. We had technical problems, which the excellent service team was always able to fix. We left every service center with a competitive car. We never made a mistake, if the car works well, it's great! In the last lap, we gave Lucky a minute in three fast laps. We won this European championship race for the second time, which we are very proud of!
Lucky- (Fabrizia Pons):
I congratulate everyone, the organizers for the great competition and Érd for the victory. I couldn't do more to hold it!
Maybe we could have done it differently, we didn't attack from the start. We had some problems with the settings and we didn't know all the fast ones, but that doesn't detract from the value of the Érdi's victory.
Karl Wagner – (Gerda Zauner):
This year was similar to last year with rain and heat. I congratulate the organizers, I feel that big changes have taken place, the sections have been designated better for us.We had technical problems with the shock absorbers and the suspension, but this is part of the rally, we are happy to be here.
In the absolute evaluation of Historic, the Wirtmanns took fourth place, Érdi was first, Lucky second, and Wagner third.
In the Hungarian evaluation, of course, Érdi also won the absolute, Wirtmann entered the Ford Escort RS in second place, and Jenő Spindler followed them in third place. Kalapács finished fourth best.
Wirtmann Ferenc – (Kerekes József):
I don't know who organized this competition :o), but it should teach the others! The rubber was normal, it wasn't worn out, I've never ridden on such clean tracks in my life. It was a cool race!
Spindler Jenő – (Csizmadia Csaba):
The plan was to fit into the top ten if you look at the entire historic field. In the Hungarian evaluation, it was in the first three or four, and it was also included. We cannot influence the weather, the competition was basically good. I liked that the rapids were reversed because it was a bit boring to always go in the same direction. I really like the track in Alsómocsolád, I would have gone on it a few more times.
Kalapács Zsolt – (Mohácsi László):
I finally feel like I found the gas pedal, I managed to move up from seventh place to fourth. The car is in shape, everything works as it should. I really liked the competition, I congratulate the organizers for making this difficult decision yesterday, it was in everyone's interest to ensure the safety of the competitors, spectators, and sports judges. It must not have been an easy decision to make!
Szabó Gergő (Szőnyi Péter)
Thus, the Mecsek Rallye was also interesting from the right side. We got a taste of it again at the Esztergom Classic and really enjoyed it, it was good to meet old faces, so we thought we'd try our luck here in Mecsek as well. We had a completely flawless race with a good result, we had a lot of fun.
Trexler Zoltán – („Mésziati”)
We had a great time, an excellent rider navigated for me. Apart from yesterday's interruption, it was a good fast-paced race, we are very satisfied with the second place in the category.
In the ORB + ORC in his field, the first spectacular stunt soon happened, on the first stage, the Velenczeis ended up in a ditch after covering 15 km, but luckily only the car hurt them, so they were already out of the ring.
Velenczei Ádám – (Vánsza Zsolt):
Unfortunately, we swam off the road at 170, we went 10 centimeters away from a large tree. This wouldn't have been a problem, but when we came back to the road, there was a pillar on the side of the road, we couldn't avoid it, we got to the side of it and it turned. From there, we walked another hundred meters and finally slipped into a deep ditch. We immediately jumped out of the car, we couldn't get out, it was clear that it was over. This is bad both financially and for our souls, but we are trying to build ourselves up for Veszprém.
Hadiks were not lucky either, they slid off the road and suspected that they had hit the radiator in the process, but later it turned out that the loss of turbo pressure was caused by the loosening of the clamp on the turbo pipe, which they then managed to solve.
The Bodolais' car was also damaged when they took a retarder, but in the end it did not cause any serious problems for them and they were able to reach the finish line successfully.
The occasional rain made it very difficult for part of the field. At the start of the stage in Mecsekpölöske, the sky fell, which caused serious concern for the competitors. Those who weren't careful enough could have lost a lot, as quite a few started today's first round with slicks.
Tagai Róbert (Bútor Róbert):
The first and third stages were very good with the slick tires, but in the second we almost just rolled because it was raining and we didn't want to take any risks, we went really restrained. Ilyen a rally, nem lehet minden pályára tökéletesen készülni.
The Klauszs put everything on the line and won the fast, ahead of the Vinczes and Turáns. On the other hand, the Bodogans fell and something knocked out the windshield of the Lada VFTS, but luckily they were able to get out of the fast lane and continue the race.
On the 3rd stage (Hetvehely – Golgota), Zoltán Csík's Subaru caught fire after a poorly executed high-speed turn, so the starters behind him already completed the fast stage. The car was extinguished on the spot with the fire extinguishers of the competitors who came after them.
In the ORB Ferenc Vincze and his navigator, Nándor Percze, won the field by 15.6 seconds ahead of Frigyes Turán and Ágnes Farnadi. Behind them, Klausz Kristóf - Tamás Papp finished in third place, while the duo Péter Ranga - Janek Czakó finished fourth. THE Mitropa Rally Cup értékelésének első helyét Klauszék szerezték meg.
Vincze Ferenc – (Percze Nándor)
We have never won here in Pécs, so this was a very important race weekend for us. Although it is a bit far for us, the city is very beautiful and we come here once a year to compete. The team did a great job over the weekend. Nándi was also great on the right side, and a big thank you to everyone who contributed to this new success.
Turán Frigyes – Farnadi Ági
Obviously we came to win, but I don't have any bad feelings. It was a very serious battle, the two of us hung out a bit, Ádi was able to join us for a bit, but unfortunately he dropped out of the competition, which I'm sorry about. We had to fight for second place and go fast. The competition was good, the organizers made a perfectly good decision by canceling yesterday's second round. The competitor liaisons did their job very well, we were fully served.
Ranga Péter – (Czakó Janek)
I am not completely satisfied! We finished fourth, but we had several problems, for example a half-shaft break in the last lap, but the result is not so bad. The courses turned out to be very good, it was a very good competition.
Bertalan Márton – (Paizs Róbert)
We are not really satisfied, but we are not dissatisfied either. I'm disappointed that the second place slipped out of our hands, but now we have a gravel race, we are preparing for it because we love it very much.
Berta László – (Császár László)
This goblet could shine brighter. It's a bit annoying that somehow they always sing the victory out of our mouths. Obviously, I shouldn't have made so many mistakes. For example, turning at one hundred and sixty. But luckily, we didn't break the car, and we won the powerstage, so maybe we lead the championship by one or two points ahead of Bertalan Marci. We'll see what happens in the next race.
Németh 16 V Péter és (8 V Péter)
We didn't think that this would be the end result of this weekend, the child went very well and very quickly, he really got everything out of him. I am very proud that he is here at the age of twenty-one and with such talent. This is my eleventh victory out of my nearly forty Mecsek Rallyes, but obviously this one I achieved as a navigator together with my son is the sweetest and most special.
Vogel Adrienn – (Maricsek Miklós)
I really lament the podium finish, but that's what rally is like. With these compounds, we slid a lot on wet tracks and lost a lot there. Obviously, there is also room for improvement. However, we managed to win the Árpádtetto rapid, which is a very big advantage in this tight field.
The best of the ORC field were, in order, Tamás Bacsa - Gergely Hanyik, Mihály Matics - Viktória Zejda, Ariel Gyarmati - György Kocsis.
Gyarmati Ariel – (Kocsis György)
Our car was finished very late. Just that we were able to start. This was our first competition this year and we are very happy that we were able to reach the finish line!
On the finishing podium of the 56th Mecsek Rallye, the CEO of PSN Zrt., the organizer of the race, János Máté and the president of MNASZ, Zoltán Szujó, as well as the head of the MNASZ Rally, Zsolt Hoffer, handed out the well-deserved cups and special prizes to the award-winning competitors. The celebration ended with the inevitable champagne sprinkling.
