The 54th Mecsek Rally started with sleet
At the start of the Historic race, the sky was still almost bright, then it slowly darkened, the meteorological sites indicated a huge storm and it hit... But fortunately, the heavenly blessing only lasted a short time. We asked three couples from the Mercarius Rally1 championship about what they expect, what they expect from the competition, how they handle the heat, and what they think about the wet track.
The Klausz Kristóf - Csányi Botond couple is already preparing for a survival tour, they said they don't know what's up, but based on what they've heard so far, not much good can be expected. By the way, everything is fine with them.
– We're fine, we've refreshed a bit here in the rain, after the heat. In view of the heat, we tried to book an air-conditioned accommodation, obviously that helped a lot, and going to the track with an air-conditioned car, I think we saved a little energy, the afternoon was spent resting, we worked on the tracks, watched videos and wrote a new itinerary, we hope that this is also about speed will show the same. So we are definitely looking forward to the competition positively.
What did you say about the water track?
– We'll see what happens, so much rain has fallen that I think you have to prepare for mud as well, it will be carried in the forest, but we've driven in such conditions before, but not with this car, so it will definitely be a learning experience.
What do you expect from the competition?
– If we follow the row pattern of 6,5,4, then now a third place would come. This is our primary goal, and I think that after the first rapids, we can say what is realistic, what is the end.
Csányi Botond is the decorator of several rally partners. We also asked him if many people fall, how much work will he have to do with the decorations?
– I have a lot of work all the time, thank God, I can't complain, after the Mecsek Rally I'm going back to Topp Zoli at night and I have to fix a car for László Martin, because they're leaving for Latvia at dawn on Sunday, so there will be work until Monday evening, because László Zoli is also going to Hercz There are also improvements with Norbi, but after the Polish EC, the decors were amortized.
The duo of Ádám Velenczei and Igor Bacigál is also prepared.
How are you?
We are fine. It's raining now, I'm sure it will rain so that everyone will be wet, unlike in the previous races. We are behind in the championship, we really have nothing to lose, we will try to do our best, take risks, it would be nice to be on the podium again.
How was the field trip?
– It was good, we covered everything, we already went on most of the tracks. These are good little tracks. We also handle the heat well.

How are you?
– Everything is fine, thank God, we didn't miss this rain, we suffered through this week in this heatwave, he should have lasted another 24 hours, but he couldn't. So now I'm a bit grumpy and we were scared because there was ice when we arrived so that the windshield wouldn't get damaged, but luckily it didn't. I think we processed the pitches well, invested a lot of time, filmed videos, prepared beforehand, discussed things, the net situations, so I think the writing went well.
How do you handle the heat?
– Well, we tried it directly in the test, it was a great experience, I can say, but not an ideal situation, I think it was also very noticeable on the car that it could hardly go, they did not accelerate, to see if it would cool down and the weather would be a little better. But we are prepared for anything.
What do you expect from the competition?
– I always want to be in the top five, when we know, we can achieve these results, but one nuance or another has come in the way, now let's see if nothing comes in the way.
