Zippo expects a big battle at the Mecsek
In the previous round of the Historic Eb, at the Vltava Rally, Zippo defeated the great opponent Karl Wagner. The Italian driver expects a similar fight at the Mecsek Rally, and he also wants to fight back, since he missed out on the championship title here in 2019.
„I expect a fast and technical race, like in 2019. I hope we achieve a better result than last time, when we lost the championship in Mecsek. I don't want to make a mistake this year” said Zippo.
Austrian Karl Wagner's old opponent of the Italian pilot, in the previous race in the Czech Republic, Zippo was still second with a 0.7 second gap in the penultimate speed, but turned around in the final stage and won the race with an advantage of 4.5 seconds. To the question whether he expects a similar battle now, he answered very briefly: "Remélem hasonló végeredmény lesz” he said with a smile.
The iconic Audi Quattro was chosen by Zippo back in 2011, when it started its historic career. Over the years, he got to know the car so much that today he is able to build similar racing cars and to restore contemporary street and racing Audis. In 2014, he also built a Quattro identical to his own racing car for Jari-Matti Latvala.
"I bought the car in Sweden back in 2011. We rebuilt and copied the original parts, rebuilt the engine, restored the body. It was not an easy job, most of the problems were caused by the Pierburg injection, it was a pleasure to have it set up. We worked with it a lot, but in the end we found the good values and managed to set the whole car well and find the balance. Now it can make about 400 horsepower at 7,500 rpm, it's not easy to drive” said the competitor again with a big smile, and this was the moment when we had to ask the story of the photo used as an illustration for our previous article.
"It was taken at the Sanremo rally. We went at exactly the same speed as Michelle Mouton in 1981 with the same car.”
Zippo, whose civil name is Andrea Zivian, was looking forward to competing again in the Mecsek Rally, because he loves his country very much.
„I love Hungary, and even had a Hungarian girlfriend for seven years. Pécs is a fantastic city, atmospheric and steeped in history. I love the passion of the fans there, they are real rally fans, and I also have many friends in Pécs."
