The Historic field has started - Zippo leads
The 54th Mecsek Rally has officially begun, the first racing cars rolled over the starting podium set up on Széchenyi Square. In Pécs, the Historic field appeared with the highest number of participants so far, 46 pairs of competitors started today.
After the start ceremony, they headed for Pécsvárad, where they have to complete the 18.15 kilometer speed twice at the end of the day. The weather thoroughly played tricks on the field, after the sweltering heat, heavy rain and ice fell on the Pécsvárad stage.
Already on the first speed stage, the competitors reached the finish line with huge time differences. The Italian duo Zippo - Denis Piceno completed the stage the fastest, 13.1 seconds ahead of the Italian duo Lucio Da Zanche - Matteo Nobili. The pair of Karl Wagner and Gerda Zauner came to the finish line in third place, more than 30 seconds behind.
The fastest Hungarians were Ferenc Wirtmann and József Kerekes, their time of 12:29.7 minutes was enough for the absolute fifth place.
