It's hard to believe, but it's been almost sixty years since this classic rally race became an indispensable part of the Hungarian championship calendar. And not just any way! The organizers are doing everything they can this year to make the competition worthy of its reputation - not only domestically, but also internationally.
In addition to the domestic top teams, the ORB, ORC and Historic, the Mitropa Rally Cup and the FIA CEZ Trophy (Central European Zone Trophy), which are also international in nature, will also be present at the Pécs event. As the hopes of the future, the Rally2 competitors will also compete in Mecsek, so exciting diversity is guaranteed this time too.
This year's competition is slightly different from previous years: the program starts on Friday and ends on Sunday - that is, the program starts one day later than in recent events. On the opening day on Friday, the official handovers and the official test will take place in the Bakonya area, and then from 6 pm one of the most spectacular events will follow, the ceremonial start ceremony on Széchenyi Square in Pécs, where the audience can get to know all the starters of the event.
We can meet the members of the field not only on the sidelines of the tracks, but also in the heart of the city: the racing cars will appear several times in the Pécs Centrum parking lot. The so-called “parc fermé” (night collector) will be located here again this year, giving rally fans the opportunity to walk around the parking lot and admire the racing cars waiting to be used the next day.
The real race will begin on Saturday, with each field starting the fight for tenths of a second. The events will take place on three tracks:
• Árpádtető–Orfű (13,6 km),
• Alsómocsolád–Mecsekpölöskei elág (12,25 km),
• Zobákpuszta–Pécsvárad (10 km).
The Rally2 field will complete these stages twice, while the larger categories and the others will return to Árpádtető for an extra lap. On Saturday evening, the competition will end for the Rally2 competitors and the teams arriving at the finish line can celebrate on the podium in Széchenyi Square.
The others will continue the battle on Sunday's final day, where everything will be decided on two more tracks:
• Pécsvárad–Hosszúhetény (15,8 km)
• Kemping–Szentkút (8,05 km)
The competitors will complete both stages twice, then the third “power stage” of the Pécsvárad–Hosszúhetény stage will come, which will close the weekend. On Sunday afternoon, Pécs' Széchenyi Square will once again be the center of attention, this time the podium and champagne will be the main characters at the finish ceremony.
The 58th Mecsek Rallye, held at the Expo Center in Pécs, offers the Rally2 championship starters the opportunity to race on a 73.65km special stage, while the Mitropa, CEZ, ORB, ORC and Historic fields the opportunity to race on a 148.8km special stage.
In the future, all important information – safety regulations, timetable, road closures, course drawings, latest news – will be available on the mecsekrallye.com website and on our MecsekRallyeEvent Facebook page.
