At ORB2 and ORB3, the podium finishers were already celebrating.
The ORB 2 field had settled down a bit by the second round, with fewer surprises in the last stage. Baksai and his team had already built up an advantage from the beginning, which proved sufficient until the end. Their four stage wins only solidified their position. At the start, Rónavölgyi Tamás opted for softer tires, although he wasn’t entirely satisfied. Despite that, he managed to set a good initial time, but then had to deal with a loose water bottle interfering with the pedals. Ultimately, he secured second place, trailing by 29.7 seconds. The Tamás-Sztrakon pair achieved their long-standing goal by standing on the third step of the podium, a feat they hadn’t accomplished before. There was plenty of joy to go around! Hauck Zsolt finished fourth, and Görög Péter, the last to cross the finish line in the Szuper Rali, took fifth place.
In ORB3, the 18 remaining pairs could have stood on the Széchenyi Square podium in the order of Kosztolányi, Kovács, and Rimár. However, at the last moment, it was revealed that Kosztolányi’s team received a 20-second penalty due to a chicane penalty, allowing Kovács to take the lead. Rimár’s team faced transmission issues and didn’t make it to the podium. As a result, Lipóczky’s team finished third, celebrating their achievement at the finish line. But life had one more twist in store: they were later disqualified due to a technical violation. This opened the door for Bajusz Krisztián to claim third place. Fóti’s team, who finished 10th in ORB3, experienced plenty of excitement. Their father-son collaboration was put to the test as they dealt with brake problems, secured a stage win, and even suffered a broken rim towards the end. With that, the program concluded for the ORB2 and ORB3 fields, making way for the Historic EB competitors to begin the 57th Mecsek Rallye.
