He is competing in this year's Mecsek Rallye with a Peugeot 208 Rally4, and by the way, he is a water polo player, junior water polo coach and recreation major student at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Pécs. Tamás Tóth-Gili is a full-blooded sportsman who never gives up and who is worth paying attention to!

Why did you start racing?
Édesapám a magyar rallye egyik legendájává nőtte ki magát, a ‘90-es években az élmezőnyben versenyzett. Gyermekkoromban én nem az állatkertbe jártam, hanem rallye versenyekre. Mondhatni, a pálya mellett nőttem fel. Kiskorom óta vízilabdázom, de profi karrierem a koronavírus sajnos kettétörte, csak idén januárban kezdhettem el újra azt a sportot. (Csapata, a PTE-PEAC Mighty Bulls június 10-én megnyerte az OB II. bajnoki címét! – a szerk.) A “kényszerszünet” alatt próbáltam ki magam az autóversenyzésben, bár már korábban is fontolgattam. Egyébként éppen édesapámat kellett a legjobban győzködnöm erről – ő tudja, pontosan milyen veszélyekkel és mennyi lemondással jár a rallye. Kipróbáltam magam, és magával rántott teljesen!

You are a sophomore at the University of Pécs. What major are you studying, to whom would you recommend PTE?

I study lifestyle and recreation management at the Faculty of Health Sciences. I recommend PTE and especially ETK to all those who want to study in a family atmosphere: we can count on our teachers at any time in both theoretical, professional and practical matters. In addition, PTE supports athletes - and I can say this from experience. If you dedicate yourself to learning, the sky is really the limit.

Mit gondolsz a Mecsek Rallye-ról?

Nagyon szeretem, és mivel itt tanulok a PTE-n, és a PEAC-ban vízilabdázom, akár hazai pályának is nevezhetném. Imádom ezt a várost, a hangulatát, úgy érzem, ezek életem legszebb évei. Nagyon jó érzés, amikor a barátaim és a pécsi szurkolók kijönnek szurkolni! De bármikor kirándulok a Mecsekben vagy lemegyek úszni egyet Orfűre, ezen a pályán megyek át, és ez is ad egyfajta plusz magabiztosságot a verseny alatt.
I like the branch starting from Árpádtetó the most: the beginning is technical, and then a real test of courage. Ranga László út is a big challenge, because you have to almost stand on the gas and believe that the car will be able to turn the given turn.
Last year, I completed a warm-up year with a 120 hp historic Toyota Corolla, and we fell out of the leading position due to a breakdown of the car. This year we are starting with a 220 hp Peugeot 208 Rally4. You had to grow up a lot for that, and this is the level where even just reaching the goal is a huge thing. But we learn in deep water.
I am considered a newcomer in a field where my opponents are professionals and very routine. I want to gain experience and get the best out of the whole weekend so that I can come to Pécs to win next year.
