More than 200 racing cars will start at the 56th Mecsek Rallye. In this year’s third race of the HUMDA National Rally Championship, as well as in the European Championship of the Historic category, the competitors cover a total of 161 kilometers.
At Wednesday’s press conference of the 56th Mecsek Rallye, Mayor Attila Péterffy reminded that the competition is a serious event in the city every year, and the competition has the longest history considering the races of the domestic championships.
– The city is trying to provide all possible conditions for successful participation for the competitors, while we are preparing high-quality additional programs and fan zones for the spectators – said the mayor.
János Máté, chairman of the race’s organizing committee and CEO of PSN Zrt., highlighted that the organization of this year’s program began immediately on the day after last year’s race, and expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the work.
Tamás Őry, the vice-president of the Hungarian National Motorsport Association (MNASZ), reminded that a new team took over the leadership of the sports association at the end of last year, and although they did not have time to prepare for this year, they tried some new things in the rally.
„The most important of these is that this year there are two gravel races in the program, but we are concerned with preserving the old values, and the Mecsek Rallye has long been the most stable point of the Hungarian championship,” said the vice-president, who added that the international federation (FIA) was very satisfied last year was with the event, and I would like it to be the same this year.
Zsolt Hoffer, the head of the MNASZ rally department, emphasized that the first and most stable point in the compilation of this year’s race calendar was the Mecsek Rallye, which has a large field at the start, considering that in addition to all the OB machine classes, the Historic European Championship and the Mitropa Cup starters will also be interested in the competition.
Tibor Markó, the chief sports professional organizer of the race, mentioned that more than 600 people will work on the successful execution of the two race days.
– In the 12 high-speed stages, the field has a distance of 161 kilometers, and although the FIA delegate was completely satisfied last year, we tried and are trying to improve the race this year – he added.
At the press conference, among the contestants, jr. Tibor Érdi, Ádám Velenczei and Péter Ranga, who also presented his racing car. On Friday, 71 kilometers and then on Sunday from 8.30 an additional 90 kilometers of speed sections await the pilots.
