The previous winners of Mecsek Rally (1): We look forward with confidence to the next competition

június 9, 2022

In our freshly starter mini-series we will interview those competitors of Mecsek Rallye, who have already tasted the sweet flavour of victory on these serpentines once (or even more). Frigyes Turán first arrived the finish line in 2009 with the navigation of Zsíros Gábor and with a Peugeot 307 WRC, then in 2013 with Zoltán Csökő and a Ford Focus RS WRC ’07. Now the navigator and the car are both new – but he still has the ambition of performing with hundred percent.

The beginning of the year has been interesting for us, because of a change of personnel in the team. My navigator Laci Bagaméri has hung up his helmet for this year, so I had to find a solution. I chose Ági Farnadi, with whom we had already had a successful year in 2017 – the pilot described the cause of the change.

We started the season well in terms of our pace, but a puncture on an etap in Salgótarján sealed the outcome of the race and we only finished 5th. In comparison, the Boldogkő Rally was even more unfortunate, where the start was already exciting and we unfortunately didn’t finish.

But we overcame these problems and finished 3rd in the 3rd race, the Dunakanyar Rally, which could have been better. On the first day we won two out of the four stages and finished on the podium in the other two with the Polo, but we were too far behind due to a time penalty and then a technical error the next day – Frigyes Turán briefly assessed their own performance so far this year.

But, what is certain is that we are competitive and have the potential to finish well.

In Mecsek, the level of the championship requires us to be 100% from the first corner to the last metres, and that’s our plan. I like the it very much, I have fond memories here, it will be good to come back. I’m also very happy that it’s been moved up in the calendar, because till now the date used to be closer to the winter.

Based on the plans and promises of the organisers, we can expect a good atmosphere for spectators and competitors alike, a race that everyone will enjoy. And I’m confident that we’ll be able to have a good drive – predicted also the chances the two-time Pécs champion.
